Noticeboard

The practice operates the NHS Zero tolerance policy.  Any one attending the surgery who abuses the GPs, staff or other patients; verbally, physically or in a threatening manner will be removed from the practice  list.

Our workers have the right to be treated with dignity and respect at all times. They should be able to do their jobs without being physically or verbally abused. Most people respect this. Thank you for being one of them.

Appointments

The major demand for appointments with our surgeries is for a ‘same day appointment’ and this is where we have the majority of our available appointments.  For many ailments it may be more appropriate for your appointment to be with a trained nurse practitioner or minor illness nurse.  For all appointments, please be prepared to give the receptionist an indication of your problem.  S/he can then direct you to the most appropriate doctor or nurse.  To make an appointment please telephone early on the day that you wish to be seen on the following numbers:

  • Charles Hicks Centre Patients: 01480 - 453038
  • Roman Gate Surgery Patients: 01480 - 455331

Patients can also book online via the link at the top of this page.

NOTE: Before you use this system you need to visit the practice to be registered for a username and password. Before giving you these details we will ask to see photographic proof of identity such as driving licence/passport/bus pass.

Pre-bookable Appointments

As the major demand for appointments is for ‘same day appointments’ this is where the majority of appointments are.  However, we accept that this system, for a variety of reasons, does not suit everyone.  For this reason there are a certain number of appointments that it is possible to pre-book, on most days, up to two weeks in advance and if you require to pre-book then please inform the receptionist.  But please accept that once the daily quota of pre-bookable appointments have gone you will have to try for another day or telephone on the day you wish to be seen.

Evening Surgeries

If you need to see a doctor in the evening we are now opening late on alternate Monday and Thursday evenings at our Charles Hicks Centre in Huntingdon and at the Roman Gate Surgery in Godmanchester.

Contact your respective surgery to see which evening that they will be open.

Telephone Consultations

We are very happy to talk to patients on the telephone and often this will be more appropriate than seeing you in the surgery or at home.  If you wish to talk to a doctor or nurse on the telephone please discuss it with the receptionist who will check your contact details and agree an appropriate time for the doctor or nurse to telephone you back.

Emergencies

Patients will be seen as soon as possible.  It is wise to telephone the surgery before attending as doctors may not always be available on the premises.

Appointments with a Nurse Practitioner

At both surgeries we employ a qualified nurse practitioner who is a registered nurse who has completed additional training to either degree level.  As a result, she is able to assess, diagnose, treat and manage illness and disease.  She can see you if you have problems with your ears, nose, throat, head, eyes, heart, lungs, abdomen, bones, muscles or are feeling anxious or in low mood.  The nurse practitioner is also trained to carry out gynaecological and breast examinations for ladies.  The aim is to expand and enhance the services they can offer you as a Practice nurse.  You may be offered an appointment with a nurse practitioner as an alternative to the doctor.

Can the Nurse Practitioner give me a Prescription?

Yes the nurse practitioner will be able to arrange a prescription as part of your consultation.

What if I need a Blood Test as well?

If, after assessing you, the nurse practitioner feels that you need a blood test, she will take a sample during your appointment.  If the sample needs to be “on an empty stomach” you may need to return to the surgery for a blood test appointment with the healthcare assistant.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

Extended Access

Patients of our practice are now able to book routine appointments to be seen by doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants in the evenings and at weekends in Extended Access - a new service provided by West Cambs Federation.   This service is available to all patients in this area seven days a week in sessions at four clinics:

 Acorn Surgery, Oak Drive, Huntingdon.

 Cornerstone Surgery, Elwyn Road, March.

Cromwell Place Surgery, Cromwell Place, St. Ives.

You can make an appointment at any of the sites - not just the one nearest to your home.

To book an appointment contact the practice and we will book your appointment for you.
